Southold, NY 2011 Sometimes I wander… On this particular night, this was one of the last pictures I snapped while walking along the beach for a few hours to find the light house. I never got to the lighthouse and when I got home they were looking for me, but I did get this beautiful photo out of the experience. The first time I saw this yacht by the town beach, the waves were choppy and the sun had just set. Some time later, the sea had calmed and the ships lights dominated the field with only faint glows coming from the horizon. Again, I found myself without a tripod. So I set my camera bag in the sand, perched my camera on it and set a 30 second exposure.

This photo of a fly on a dried up bone is less in line with my more aesthetically pleasing images. Ironically, I took this photo in the same place as I taken countless beach scenes, sunsets, and bird photos… now back to my lab homework.

I passed this truck many times as a child and it always struck me in some inexplicable way. Maybe it was the geometric sequence of the barrels or how the vines and barrels made the truck scream the song of some vintage good life, but all I remember is the need to get a photo of it, the need to record it the way I saw it and share that mental painting. That need led to me hanging out the window of my mom’s SUV yelling “go slower!!!” as I snapped this photo not long after holding a camera in my hands for the first time.
